Adult Education Opportunities
At Church of the Good Shepherd, one of our goals is to provide consistent quality opportunities for Christian education at all age levels. We invite everyone, from first-time visitors to long-time members, to participate.
The Adult Education programs described below take place during our Education hour, Sunday mornings from 9:40 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. We also offer two Centering Prayer sits per week, Tuesday mornings at 8:30 a.m. and Thursday evenings at 6 p.m. This year we have again gathered a group to commit to the Disciple I Bible Study. There may be other offerings throughout the year--listen to announcements at the start of worship or check our calendar or newsletter to keep informed.

Periodic Studies
Last year we had some great studies of Parker Palmer's Let Your Life Speak and Rob Bell's Velvet Elvis, and this year we plan to offer Matthew Sleeth's Serve God, Save the Planet and an Anne Lamott book study (among other ideas).
Holy Hootenanny
An informal "jam session" to share hymns, gospel songs, and other music related to the lectionary themes. All are welcome to bring their joy to the noise (and an instrument, if you like).
Lectionary Study
A study of the reading for each week shortly before we encounter them in worship service. Come to the Minister’s Office to share questions and opinions, deepen your worship experience and add to your Bible knowledge. Consult the lectionary schedules from the United Methodist General Board of Discipleship to find out what is coming up.

Upcoming: We’re kicking off the adult education programming this year with a special series by Dr. Richard Waggoner, What We Do and Why We Do It. It will start Sun., Sept. 16 and go for four Sundays in the Fireside Room. In this class we will examine the practice of corporate worship from a historical, objective view in order to understand "what we do and why we do it." Attitudes, customs, and traditions will all be questioned. Here is the schedule:
- September 16 -- Sunday morning liturgies
- September 23 -- The sacraments of Holy Communion, Baptism
- September 30 -- The rites of Christian Marriage and Funerals
- October 7 -- The state of church music and related sacred arts
For further information about any of the programs, or if you are interested in volunteering or participating, please contact Education Director Dana Neuhauser at 651-645-9159.
